If you get a lot of use out of your propane gas grill, you may have noticed that it has started to look its age and is exhibiting signs of wear. However, you may still be on the fence on whether to keep your current grill or replace it with a new one. If so, look for the following signs that it is time to replace your propane gas grill.

1.  Excessive Rust or Damage Is Present on Firebox

One sign that indicates that it is time to stop using your current grill and replace it with a new one has to do with safety. If the firebox that contains the burners has become rusted through or has sustained damage such as cracks, there is a fire risk if you continue to use the grill.

If the metal has some surface rust, you can simply brush it off to help prevent further corrosion. However, if brushing the firebox causes the metal to flake off or holes to appear, there is a possibility that the bottom could fall out while you are using it, which presents a fire hazard.

If there are any cracks in the bottom of the firebox, the danger of fallthrough is also high. It is better to stop using the grill and purchase a new one to avoid this danger.

2.  Problems When Trying to Ignite the Grill

Another sign that your grill has seen better days and should be replaced is when you have consistent problems with igniting the grill. Even after making sure that the propane tanks are full, you may find that it takes several minutes for the burners to light when it should do so right away.

If the ignition switch is a separate piece from the rest of the controls, you may be able to get away with trying to replace the part. However, most grills have the ignition switch as part of the control knobs, making it impossible to replace the piece without extensive and expensive repairs. It would be easier and oftentimes cheaper to simply replace the grill instead of attempting to repair the controls.

If you find either or both of the above signs when examining or trying to use your grill, it is time to consider replacing it. Contact a company that specializes in grills to discuss your options and for help selecting a gas grill that will meet you and your household's needs.
